It was the battle of the best friends - but auburn-haired, 21-year-old Miss California girl beat her blonde buddy from Tennessee to become the new Miss USA.

Alyssa Campanella, of Los Angeles, captured the crown in Las Vegas and will represent America in this year's Miss Universe pageant.

She beat her friend Miss Tennessee Ashley Durham and topped a field of 51 beauty queens to take the title Sunday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.read more

Erin and Nicole had been friendly rivals at the Miss Tennessee 2010 pageant, when Nicole ran as Miss Lexington and Erin reigned as Miss Walking Tall, Examiner reported.

Erin is hopeful of winning the Miss America crown after Miss America 1947 Barbara Jo Walker and Miss America 1986 Kellye Cash, both from Tennessee.

Erin studied Hospitality and Resort Management at the University of Memphis.

Madison Snipes 15, who is a hopeful entertainer, according to her Facebook page, was crowned Miss Tennessee Outstanding Teen, the report said. read more
